Nirsa Girl Has An Unwavering Determination To Excel

Bhumika Roy, a young and determined athlete, found herself amidst a unique journey that unfolded during the challenging period of lockdown. Her father, Biren Roy, was employed in a private company, while her mother, Laxmi Roy, devoted her time as a housewife. As the lockdown confined people to their homes, Bhumika realized the need to stay active and decided to pursue fitness. She ventured to Raj Ground, where fate had an unexpected plan in store for her.

At Raj Ground, Bhumika stumbled upon a coaching program offered by FINISH Society and supported by Tata Power Community Development Trust (TPCDT), the CSR arm of  Maithon Power Ltd. (Tata Power), and what was even more remarkable was that it was entirely free of charge. In November 2020, she made the pivotal decision to join this coaching program, her gateway to a world of athletic opportunities. The program presented her with a multitude of sports to choose from, including athletics, kabaddi, football, and volleyball. With enthusiasm and determination, she embarked on her athletic journey.

Initially, Bhumika began her training in running. However, her progress in this discipline was not as promising as she had hoped. It was then that Patra sir, her coach, introduced her to alternative events such as shot put and discus throw. These new challenges ignited a spark of interest within her, and she began to exhibit significant improvement in these fields.

Bhumika’s dedication and hard work bore fruit as she participated in numerous local competitions, earning a collection of gold, silver, and bronze medals. Her impressive achievements did not go unnoticed, and her parents, equally captivated by her burgeoning talent, extended their unwavering support and encouragement.
After a year of intense training, Bhumika’s moment of glory arrived when she competed in the district games held in Dhanbad on September 24, 2021. Her determination and skill culminated in a triumphant gold medal victory. Unfortunately, due to the persisting lockdown restrictions, the state games were postponed. However, the setback did not deter her spirit.
A year later, on May 28, 2022, the district games returned to Dhanbad, and Bhumika once again emerged victorious with another gold medal to her name. Her consistent excellence earned her a spot in the State meet held in Jamshedpur on June 3, 2022, where she secured a silver medal, adding yet another accolade to her burgeoning collection. In a stroke of fortune, Bhumika’s talents were recognized, and she was selected to represent the East Zone in the Junior National Games, held in Patna from September 9 to 11, 2022. While the competition was fierce, she gave her best and secured an admirable sixth rank, marking her presence at the national level.

Undeterred by challenges, Bhumika continued to hone her skills. In May 2023, she returned to the district games in Dhanbad from May 12 to 14, where she clinched yet another gold medal, further cementing her status as a rising star in the world of athletics.

Her journey reached a new milestone when she participated in the Open State Athletics Championships, held in Pakur from June 2 to June 4, 2023. This time, she earned a well-deserved silver medal, proving her mettle on a bigger stage. Bhumika’s remarkable journey led her to a new chapter as she was selected to compete in the Under 18 State Athletics Championships, scheduled from July 15 to 16, 2023, in Chandankiyari. This prestigious event marked another step forward in her promising athletic career, and she was eager to embrace the challenges it would bring.

Bhumika Roy’s story is a testament to her unwavering determination, resilience, and passion for athletics. Her journey from the initial struggles during lockdown to the numerous medals and achievements is an inspiring example of what dedication and hard work can achieve. With each victory, she continues to reach new heights, and her future in the world of athletics holds immense promise.
