Workshop on Entrepreneurship Development in Sanitation Sector “Sanitation as a Business” Convening Partners ESF / CEWAS / WASTE

WORKSHOP GOAL: This workshop will emphasis the business and employment opportunities available in the sanitation sector and need of entrepreneurship development in sanitation. Entrepreneurs constructing sanitation systems, those stocking or supplying materials, those manufacturing materials, entrepreneurs emptying sanitation systems and increasingly those converting human waste into saleable products. There are entrepreneurs operating public facilities, stand-alone or at festivals or both. Entrepreneurs can also operate more complete systems, i.e. from offering public facilities, converting and selling human waste or those engaged in collection and conversion of human waste. In the case of the latter, there are a number of public-private business models feasible. Under Swachh Bharat Mission (SBM), India uniquely holds the most ideal conditions to accelerate the sanitation economy as a new market place for innovation, entrepreneurship development and investment, making sanitation self-funding, and turning human waste into valuable organic resources and securing human health. The main goal of the workshop is to understand the flaws in the process and the strategy to glamorize the sanitation sector as a business. Learning Objectives: Part 1: • To understand the innovations, challenges, experiences, start-up stories in sanitation sector • To understand the future prospects/opportunities available in sanitation sector • To guide the potential sanipreneurs in the sanitation economy TARGET AUDIENCE: a) Sanitation experts, practitioners, entrepreneurs, start-ups c) Governmental and non-governmental organizations e) Representatives of sanitation programs, donor agencies, etc. NUMBER OF PARTICIPANTS: 50
